Made with cinnamon, apples and brown sugar, this quick and easy recipe is fall in a bowl!
The weather is finally cooling off, sweaters are coming out and the leaves are changing colors. Fall is here! We’re jumping headfirst into the season with one of my favorite desserts.
This Apple Crisp recipe is my official fall dessert. It’s a super simple recipe that reminds me of a soft, apple oatmeal cookie. Because of how quick and easy this recipe is, it’s a constant in my rotation of desserts. We have it at least a few Sundays out of the month. The warm flavor of the apples and cinnamon with the creaminess of Blue Bell ice cream is the perfect combination.
Tips
If you've been following me a while, you know I try to use fresh ingredients as much as possible, so I always use fresh apples. Don’t forget ice cream! I use vanilla Blue Bell Ice Cream. The creaminess of the ice cream complements the warm apples and crunchiness of the oats perfectly.
Ingredients
2 pounds Granny Smith apples 2 pounds Honey crisp apples 3/4 cup firmly packed light brown sugar 1/4 cup all-purpose flour 1/4 cup apple cider 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt Unsalted butter, for greasing the pan
Topping: 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats 2/3 cup firmly packed light brown sugar 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon pinch of ground cloves 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt 2 sticks cold unsalted butter, cubed
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Butter a 9-by-13-inch baking dish.
Filling: Whisk together the brown sugar, flour, apple cider, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt in a large bowl. Peel, core and slice the apples. Add the apples to the brown sugar mixture and toss to combine. Transfer the apple mixture to the prepared baking dish in an even layer.
Topping: Combine the flour, oats, brown sugar, pecans, cinnamon, cloves and salt in a medium bowl. Add the butter cubes and use your fingers to completely work the butter into the flour mixture. The mixture should be squeezed into medium to small clumps. Sprinkle the crumble topping over the apple filling. Bake until the filling is bubbly, the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown, about 1 hour.
Let stand for at least 45 minutes and serve warm or at room temperature.
